The revised pension benefits will come into effect in several phases

The government’s new pay structure has left retired public servants and their families wondering how much their pension benefits will rise.
The package lifts salaries and allowances for serving employees while also providing higher pensions for retirees.
The changes, however, will be introduced in several phases.
An analysis of the gazette shows that those who retired on relatively low basic salaries and have remained on limited incomes for many years stand to see the biggest increases.
Those now drawing a net pension of Tk 9,000 or less will now receive between Tk 10,000 and Tk 18,000.
That represents a rise of up to 100 percent.
At the upper end, retirees receiving a monthly net pension of Tk 40,001 or more will get between Tk 62,001 and Tk 70,200.
Under the new rates, people drawing Tk 9,000 or less will see their pensions double.
Those receiving Tk 9,001 to Tk 20,000 will get a 75 percent boost, while the Tk 20,001 to Tk 30,000 bracket will see a 65 percent rise.
Those in the Tk 30,001 to Tk 40,000 range will get a 60 percent increase, while pensions of Tk 40,001 or more will rise by 55 percent.
