Habib Bank Ltd (HBL) has celebrated 50 years of operations in Bangladesh, commemorating half a century of trade, investment, and financial partnership since establishing its presence in 1976.

To mark the golden jubilee, HBL hosted a commemorative event in Dhaka on Wednesday, attended by regulators, prominent clients, industry leaders, and senior executive leadership, including HBL Chairman Sultan Ali Allana and President and CEO Muhammad Nassir Salim.

HBL said in a media statement that the financial institution has built a robust regional footprint aimed at facilitating cross-border banking as Bangladesh deepens its integration into global trade corridors.

The bank highlighted its specialised capabilities in China -- where HBL operates branches in Beijing and Urumqi equipped with foreign exchange and Renminbi (RMB) licences -- noting that it remains one of only three banks from the South Asia and MENA regions offering end-to-end RMB intermediation.

HBL’s presence in China enables direct engagement with State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and major financial institutions involved in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the wider Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the statement read.

The bank affirmed that its network across Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Maldives, Singapore, Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, and Kenya continues to offer unified cross-border financial services.

Reaffirming its long-term commitment to the Bangladeshi market, HBL emphasised that it will continue leveraging its regional infrastructure to drive the country's future growth.
