Blasts from improvised explosives have been reported at least eight places in Dhaka on Friday night.

Multiple hand bombs were detonated in front of Jatrabari Police Station and a fire broke out on a bus in front of Kafrul Police Station.

The police have not made any statement on who is causing these incidents. A rickshaw driver has been injured in one of the blasts.

Two blasts occurred on the road next to the Sohag Paribahan counter adjacent to Malibagh Railgate after Jummah prayers on Friday afternoon. From then until midnight, explosions were then reported in at least eight places until midnight.

Police reported improvised explosive blasts in Mohakhali and Agargaon areas in the evening.

A hand bomb was thrown down from the Mohakhali flyover around 6pm and detonated, said Banani Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Tarek.

He said, “Someone threw an improvised explosive from above. Our team is working at the scene.”

At about the same time, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station chief Md. Monirul Islam reported a hand bomb explosion in front of the Betar Bhaban in Agargaon.

He said, “I have received information about an improvised explosive blast. A police team is working on the scene, but I have not received detailed information yet.”

Around 7:45pm, multiple explosions were heard in front of the main gate of Jatrabari Police Station. SI Md Hasanur, the duty officer of the police station, said: “I heard multiple explosions. senior police officials are investigating the matter.”

However, he could not confirm where the bombs had been thrown from.

Later in the night, hand bomb explosions were reported at the Moghbazar Intersection, under Babubazar bridge, and in Rampura.

Hatirjheel Police Station chief Mohammad Asaduzzaman said, “A hand bomb exploded near the Jamme Mosque at the Moghbazar Intersection on Friday night around 9:15 pm. However, there were no casualties.”

Kotwali Police Station chief Md. Rabiul informed that a hand bomb exploded under the Babubazar Bridge around 8pm. He said, “The police went to the spot after receiving a report about an explosion. However, there were no casualties.”

Police also reported a pair of improvised explosive blasts on the road opposite the main gate of Bangladesh Television (BTV) in Rampura. Rampura Police Station chief Jahangir Alam said, “An improvised explosive blast occurred on the road opposite the main gate of BTV around 11pm, which falls in the Hatirjheel Police Station area. We are going to the scene after receiving the report.”

Bus on Fire

Amid these explosions, the Fire Service reported a fire on a Mirpur Link Paribahan bus in front of Kafrul Police Station around 10:15pm on Friday.

Fire Service Central Control Room Officer Md Shahjahan Islam said that their firefighting unit reached the spot within eight minutes of receiving the report. The fire was extinguished at 10:33pm.

The officer could not immediately confirm the cause of the fire.

The duty officer at Kafrul Police Station said that senior officials were working to determine how the fire started.
