The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited has carried out an eviction drive against illegal structures, unauthorised installations and makeshift shops at the Karwan Bazar and Farmgate metro rail stations.

The drive was conducted from 10am to 1pm on Tuesday, according to a DMTCL statement issued on Wednesday.

DMTCL executive magistrates Rafiqul Haque and Md Billal Hossain led the operation at the two stations.

The authorities removed illegal encroachments, makeshift shops and unauthorised structures during the drive.

Authorities also raised awareness among local stakeholders, urging them to keep footpaths clear to ensure the smooth and safe movement of commuters using the metro rail system, according to the statement.

DMTCL said the operation cleared areas of illegal encroachments and helped ensure a safer, more comfortable environment for metro rail passengers.

Members of the MRT Police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police and DMTCL's own security team assisted in the operation.

Similar eviction drives have previously been carried out at several other metro rail stations, with illegal encroachments removed and fines imposed, the statement said.
