প্লামঃ ঐতিহ্য আমাদের কাছে খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। আমরা উদযাপন করি কিছু নির্দিষ্ট সময়। যেমনঃ সংক্রান, লয় ক্রাথং ইত্যাদি।
সংক্রান হচ্ছে থাই নববর্ষ, যখন আমরা একে অপরকে সোজাসোজিভাবে পানি ছিটাই। অন্য দিকে, লয় ক্রাথংও আমাদের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ উৎসব, যেখানে আমরা নদীতে সুন্দর ফুলের ক্রাথং আর মোমবাতি ভাসানোর মাধ্যমে নদীকে ধন্যবাদ জানাই।
তখন অনেক পর্যটক আসে। বেশিরভাগ পর্যটকদের গন্তব্য মন্দির কিংবা রাজপ্রাসাদের দিকে। কিন্তু আমাদের দ্বীপগুলোও অনেক সুন্দর। এগুলো স্বচ্ছ পানিতে টলটলে। ওহ, ওই সময়েই তুমি দেখতে পার পানির নিচের সব কিছু। তোমাকে থাইল্যান্ডে স্বাগতম।
হ্যালোঃ তুমি কি আমাদের সাথে তোমার দৈনন্দিন জীবনের গল্পগুলো ভাগ করবে?
প্লামঃ অবশ্যই। আমার দৈনন্দিন জীবন খুবই স্বাভাবিক। সকালে, আমি স্কুলে যাই। স্কুল শেষে, আমি অতিরিক্ত ক্লাসে অংশ নেই। এটা কখনও কখনও বিজ্ঞান কিংবা অংক আবার অন্যান্য সময় এটা গান কিংবা পিয়ানোও হয়ে থাকে। আমি এখন ফ্রান্স ভাষাও শিখছি। কারণ এই বছর আমি একটা এক্সচেঞ্জ প্রোগ্রামের জন্যে ফ্রান্সে যাচ্ছি। অবসরে, আমি সাধারণত পড়ি, লিখি নয়তো গান করি। আমি গান অনেক ভালবাসি। তাই আমি যখনই ঘরে থাকি, আমি ইচ্ছে মতো গান শুনি।
প্লামঃ আমি আসলে পেশাদার গায়িকা নই। কিন্তু আমি আমার বোনের সঙ্গে নিজের কিছু গান গেয়েছি। মাঝে মাঝে শহরে আমাকে লোকজন চিনতে পারে আর এটা খুবই চমৎকার। আসলে আমার অনেক বন্ধুই সেটা সম্পর্কে জানে না কিংবা ভাবে না। হ্যাঁ, কিন্তু তারা আমাকে সমর্থন করে।
আমার পরিবার এটার সাথে পুরোপুরি একমত। কিন্তু আমি মনে করি, পড়াশোনা প্রত্যেকের জন্যে সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। তাই, আমার মূল লক্ষ্য পড়াশোনায়।
হ্যালোঃ আমার মতে তোমার অনেক ভক্ত আছে। যখন তুমি তাদের হাত তালি ও অনুপ্রেরণা পাও তোমার কেমন লাগে?
প্লামঃ হা হা হা, আমার অনেক ভক্ত নাই। কারণ আমি একজন বিখ্যাত শিল্পী নই। আর ভক্ত শব্দটায় আমার আপত্তি আছে। তারা আমার সমর্থক। যখন আমার বোনের সাথে দি ভয়েস কিডস অব থাইল্যান্ডে গিয়েছিলাম তখন দেখেছি অনেকে আমাদের গান পছন্দ করেন। তারা আমাদের অভিবাদন জানিয়েছেন। আমরা দুজন কৃতজ্ঞ তাদের কাছে।
হ্যালোঃ এমন কোনো শিশুতোষ গান সম্পর্কে জানতে চাই যেটা থাইল্যান্ডে বেশি জনপ্রিয় হয়েছে।
প্লামঃ আমার একটা মাত্র গান আছে যেটা থাইল্যান্ডে বেশ জনপ্রিয় হয়েছে। হা হা হা। এটা খুব ভালো একটা গান। এটাকে বলা হয় 'সাপাহ্ন সাইরং' মানে রঙধনু সেতু।
আমি আর আমার বোন গানটি গেয়েছিলাম। একটি থাই টেলিভিশন নাটক 'ডুআং জাই পিসুটের' জন্যে। পাঁচ কি ছয় বছরের অনাথ মেয়েকে নিয়ে।
হ্যালোঃ তুমি পড়াশোনার পাশাপাশি গান ছাড়া আর কি কর?
প্লামঃ আমি পড়তে, লিখতে আর খেলাধুলা করতে পছন্দ করি। আমি অনেক গল্প লিখেছি, যেগুলোর কোনটাই শেষ হয়নি। আমি আগে সেইলিং খেলতে যেতাম, কিন্তু এখন সময় পাই না।
আমি আমার পরিবারের সদস্যদের সঙ্গে বোর্ড গেমসও খেলি।
আমি মহাকাশ সম্পর্কে আগ্রহী। আমি সব সময়ই অংশ নেই জাতীয় ও আন্তজার্তিক মহাকাশ ক্যাম্প, প্রতিযোগিতা আর প্রদর্শনীগুলো।
হ্যালোঃ এত কিছু করে পড়ার সময় থাকে?
প্লামঃ হা হা হা। আমি সর্বোচ্চ চেষ্টা করি পড়াশোনা আর অতিরিক্ত কার্যক্রমের ভারসাম্য রাখতে। আমি অহংকার করতে চাই না তবে আমি সব সময় খুব ভালো রেজাল্ট করি।
হ্যালোঃ আমি জানতে চাই তোমাদের দেশের সাথে নারী স্বাধীনতা আর নারী ক্ষমতায়ন সম্পর্কে।
প্লামঃ উন্নত দেশগুলোর মতো নারীবাদ থাইল্যান্ডে লক্ষনীয় নয়। কারণ, এটা এমন কিছু না যেটা আমরা বিদ্যালয় থেকে শিখতে পাব। কিন্তু অনেক নারী আলোচনা করে তাদের সামাজিক মর্যাদার জন্যে। আমরা সাধারণত নিত্যদিনকার বৈষম্য দেখি না। বেশিরভাগ সময়, আমরা চেষ্টা করি এটাকে বন্ধ করতে। আমরা স্পষ্টভাবে পুরনো দিন পার করে এসেছি যেখানে শুধু নারীরা বাড়িতে থাকা আর রান্নার কাজ করত। এখন থাই মহিলারা ডাক্তার, বিজ্ঞানী, কবি, ক্রীড়াবিদ, স্থপতি হচ্ছে।
প্লামঃ আমার দুইজন প্রিয় শিক্ষক আছেন। তাদের মধ্যে একজন মিস হিগগিন যিনি আমাদের স্কুলে এখন কাজ করেন না। তিনি আমাদের বিজ্ঞান আর স্বাস্থ্য শেখাতেন যেটা সত্যিই মজার ছিল। তিনি শিশুদের বুঝতেন আর শিক্ষকতা করতে অনেক পছন্দ করতেন। তার পাঠগুলো সবসময় আনন্দের ছিল এবং সবাই তাকে ভালবাসত। তিনি এখন মালয়েশিয়াতে শিক্ষকতা করেন।
আরেকজন টি.চার্লস যে আমাদের ইংরেজি আর গণিতও শেখাতেন। তিনি বিশেষত ইংরেজিতে দক্ষ ছিলেন। তিনি আমাদের ক্লাসের ফাঁকে মজার ধাঁধাঁ বলে আনন্দ দিতে চেষ্টা করতেন। তিনি আমাদের বেশিদিন পড়াননি। কিন্তু, আমি এখনও তার সাথে কথা বলি নানান বই সম্পর্কে, কারণ তিনিও আমার মতো বইয়ের পোকা।
হ্যালোঃ তোমার জীবনের লক্ষ্য কি?
প্লামঃ আসলে আমি একজন লেখক হতে চাই। লেখা আমার আসক্তি আর আমার স্বপ্ন। অবশ্যই, যখন আমি লেখক হব, এটা আমাকে দুটি চাকরি করতে সমর্থন করবে। তাই, আমার ইচ্ছা কোন মহাকাশ সংস্থায় কাজ করা।

Sirin Jitklongsub Palm belongs to Suanluang district of the capital (Bangkok) of Thailand. She is a singer and a student of Thai Christian School of Grade – Nine. Hello talks with Palm about their country, Lifestyle and education.
Hello: Hi, Palm. How are you?
Palm: I'm well, thank and you?
Hello: I am also fine. First of all, I want to know about your country.
Palm: Thailand is a very cultural country. Tradition is very important to us. We celebrate some specific seasons; such as Songkran, Loy Krathong etc.
Sogkran is Thai New Year, when we throw water literally to one other. On the other hand, Loy Kratong is also an important festival where we thank the river by floating beautiful Krathongs of flowers and candles on the river.
Most of the tourists’ destinations are temples and palaces. But our islands are also very beautiful and where the water is crystal clear. Oh, you can see all the way to the bottom of water at times. Welcome in Thailand.
Hello: Do you want to share the story of your daily life with us?
Palm: Sure. My daily life is pretty typical. At morning, I go to school. After school, I go to take extra classes. Sometimes it’s science or mathematics and other times it's singing or piano. I'm also learning French right now. Because I'll be going to France for an exchange program this year. In my free time, I usually either read, write or sing. I love music a lot, especially musical theatre. So, when I'm at home, I just randomly burst out show tunes.
Hello: You are a girl singer. Do your family or society appreciate it?
Palm: I am not exactly an actual professional singer. But I have sung some of my own song with my sister. Sometimes people recognize me on the street and that's pretty awesome. Actually a lot of my friends don't know nor care about that. Yeah, but they're always very supportive about it.
My family's perfectly fine with it. But I think that education is the most important thing for everyone. So, my main focus is on my education.
Of course, being a singer is still a very enjoyable and rewarding experience for me and whenever someone compliments me, I go over the moon. They remind me just how blessed I am and which I never forget.
Hello: I seem – You have a lot fans. When you get their handclaps and inspirations, what do you feel?
Palm: Ha ha ha, I don't have many fans. Because I'm not a famous artist. I'm usually too shy to use the word 'fans' with them who support me. When I went on The Voice Kids of Thailand with my sister, we got that a lot of people really like us and liked our singing. They were so supportive with nice compliments. On that time, we were so overwhelmed that we just didn't say anything. But we are so thankful for every kind word, because we honestly never thought anyone even knew us existed. As for applause, it goes without saying that we always feel absolutely wonderful when we hear it. It's just so humbling to know that they like our performance and they really inspire us to do our best.
Hello: I would like hear about any child based song which become very popular in Thailand.
Palm: I've only one song that became very famous. Ha ha ha. But it's a very good song. It's called “Sapahn Sairoong” which means 'Rainbow Bridge.
I and my sister sang this song for a Thai TV drama called “Duang Jai Pisut”, which is a really good drama about a little girl of five or six years old whose parents died in a car accident.
Hello: What do you without singing besides study?
Palm: Really I do all sorts of things. I like to read, write and play instruments etc. I've written a lot of stories, none of which are finished. I used to go sailing, but now I don't have much time for that. I also play board games with my family members.
I'm really interested in space, so I always attend in national and international space camps, competitions and exhibitions etc.
Hello: How do you manage study with others extra-curricular activities?
Palm: Ha ha ha. I try to balance studying and other activities as best I can. I don't want to brag. Ahem,But I always get a 4.0 GPA.
Hello: I want to know about Girls freedom and empowerment of women in your country.
Palm: Feminism in Thailand is not as prominent as other countries like America. Because it's not something which you will learn in school. But a lot of women are speaking up and standing up for themselves. We don't easily see examples of misogyny in everyday life. For the most part, we're trying to stop it. We've definitely come a long way from the olden days where women were just expected to stay home and cook. Nowadays Thai women are doctors, scientists, poets, athletes, authors, architects and anything. Yeah, when it’ll come to ability and intelligence, there’ll no difference between men and women.
Hello: Who is your best teacher?
Palm: I have two favorite teachers. One of them is Miss Higgin who doesn't work at my school now. She taught us Science and Health who was really cool. She understood the kids and liked teaching too. Her lessons were always fun and everyone loved her. She teaches in Malaysia now.
Another one is T. Charles who taught us English and Math too. He was particularly good at teaching English. He used to give us fun riddles to try and crack before class. He doesn't teach us anymore. But I still talk to him about exchange books, because he's a bookworm like me.
Hello: What is your aim in life?
Palm: Actually I want to be an author. Writing is my passion and my dream is to see my works published one day. Of course, when I will an author, it’ll allow me to have two jobs. So, I'd also like to work in the space industry.
